Pair of 1940s Crystal Champagne Coupes

Pair of 1940s Crystal Champagne Coupes

This pair of champagne coupes is made of crystal glass, also called lead glass. Well-made crystal is at least 24% lead, is heavier than ordinary glass, yet considerably thinner. Each champagne coupe features a crosshatched sunburst pattern on the bowl, a flattened circular motif on the upper stem just below the bowl, and six groupings of three lines radiating around the base. The glasses are weighty for their thin frames and delicate in their features.
