c. 1900-1919 14k Hand Painted Arts and Crafts Era Hexagonal Teacup Saucer

c. 1900-1919 14k Hand Painted Arts and Crafts Era Hexagonal Teacup Saucer

Bursting with aesthetic charm, this hexagonal teacup saucer hails from the late Arts and Crafts movement, right on the cusp of the early Art Deco movement. It has a lovely balance of geometric forms and whimsical florals for which both movements are known. This piece has a hand-painted design with careful 14k gold accents throughout. It is meticulously painted to highlight the hexagonal shape. The base is marked to indicate that the saucer was manufactured and hand-painted in Japan, as “Nippon” was the required notation for goods made in Japan to comply with the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891, in service through 1921. This, of course, aids in dating the piece.

The plate has a hairline crack, as pictured, though it is perfectly stable and does not at all compromise the integrity or beauty of the saucer. Perhaps this is the match to your teacup for which you’ve been searching, or perhaps you want an addition to your eclectic serving collection. Display on your wall or shelf for a pop of color and interest, or place on your vanity or bedside table as a convenient jewelry and ring dish. This little piece is captivating in every way.
