1930s Japanese Lusterware Porcelain Salt Cellars

1930s Japanese Lusterware Porcelain Salt Cellars

Dating to the 1920s at the height of the Art Deco movement, this pair of petit salt cellars boast a lovely luster, powder blue on their exteriors and peach on their interiors. They each fit in the palm of the hand, and both rest on three small outturned feet. This type of porcelain and finish were famous Japanese exports, popular in American households at the time. The glazing technique used to achieve this pearlescent luster involves genuine gold contents in the luster compound within the underslip. Because of its intricate production process and rich material makeup, these pieces are highly prized and very collectible.

Though originally used to hold salt at individual place settings in place of a shared salt shaker for the table, this pair has much to offer for modern use: Add to your vanity or dresser top to hold rings, necklaces, bracelets, cufflinks, and other jewelry. Each bowl is perfectly sized to hold your precious heirlooms and is begging to be the iridescent accent your space needs.
