Designed by Richard Koret (founder of in the National Authority for the Ladies' Handbag Industry in 1935) in the late 1940s-early 1950s, this clutch purse is a rarity from the world-famous Koret brand. Koret is most notable for partnering with fashion powerhouses Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, and Hubert de Givenchy. Such prominent affiliations grant the Koret name great notoriety and value.

This bag is an extraordinary conception, exemplary in the marriage of form and function. The body of the bag is made of tightly woven jute, which is highly durable, bounded on the top and bottom by Italian cognac leather. It has a kiss-clasp closure made of solid brass, the color of which is complimented by the gold-foiled Koret label in the bag’s interior. The bag’s main focal point is its interior design which features an affixed double coin purse. Both coin purses have a cognac leather body to match the clutch’s frame, as well as a kiss-clasp closure. The structural elements of the coin purses are made of a silver toned metal.

The fame of the Koret brand makes this unique model very desirable. Other Koret bags of comparable singularity are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, prized for the brand’s quality and interesting artfulness. This clutch purse has a genius design that champions both aesthetics and usability. It is very different than most bags of the 1940s and 1950s; this clutch speaks to minimalist trends, a love for natural tones and textures, and is quite a convenient scale. While it’s been touched by time, this bag is in great shape, is perfectly practical and clever in design, and is sure to make a statement when paired with any ensemble for any occasion.
