Old European Cut Rhinestone Foil-Back Adjustable Art Deco Engagement Ring

Old European Cut Rhinestone Foil-Back Adjustable Art Deco Engagement Ring

An early example of fine costume jewelry, this silver and glass rhinestone ring was made by Uncas Manufacturing Company. This company was founded by Italian immigrant Vincent Sorrentino in Providence, Rhode Island in 1911 and is still a family-owned business today. While the grew to fame for their production of higher end affordable jewelry, they expanded their production to include play jewelry for children, and eventually partnered with hugely successful corporations, such as Disney and Coca-Cola, to manufacture accessories for their brands. Today, Uncas produces pieces solely for larger companies.

It is rare to find a stamped Uncas item with its early trademark of a “U” with an arrow piercing the letter horizontally through its center. This ring boasts such a trademark, as well as its country of manufacture. The ring is expandable and very solidly built. Because of its clever design, its adjustability is completely unnoticeable when worn.

This lovely antique ring features old European cut glass rhinestones that are foil-backed, causing ultra reflectivity and shine. They are subtly colored with age, and are set in silver metal on an adjustable band. As is, the band sits at a US size 7.5, but may be enlarged or made smaller to fit any finger. OEC cut diamonds are known for their tall crown, which is very visible on the center stone of this ring. Wear as cocktail jewelry to catch the evening twilight with a sweet sparkle.
