Mid Century Beaded Bridal Clutch with Mother of Pearl Inlay Clasp

Mid Century Beaded Bridal Clutch with Mother of Pearl Inlay Clasp

42.00

Beaded by hand in Japan during the mid century era, this clutch purse is exemplary of the fine handicraft that was prized in women’s accessories during the 1950s and 1960s. This bag is entirely covered in tiny glass seed beads that are bright, pure white, and applied in a double-swirl pattern on the front and the back. The beads are precisely sewn, effecting visual interest in their specific design, which is very unique in the sea of beaded purses from this time.

The bag opens and closes with a clasp that spans the length of the bag, and when shut, both halves of the clasp perfectly align for a seamless closure. This clasp is inlaid by hand with twelve mother of pearl shell components, giving a detail of iridescence that beautifully catches the light. The mother of pearl boasts the coveted light and dark striations for which the material is famous, and which add depth to the feature.

The interior of the bag is a luscious cream silk, bearing the expected marks of many memorable nights out. The bag has a tag that states that it was manufactured by the notable brand, Walborg, which was a very high end purse company during the time. Perhaps most interestingly, the clutch comes with its original clear plastic comb that still bears all its teeth. Handbags of this era almost always had a styling item included, such as a hand mirror or hair comb. Finding bags that, today, still maintain such a pairing is rare. Pair this lovely piece with your favorite minimalist get-up for a monochrome look, or with your bridal best for a sophisticated twist on classic wedding day fashion.
