Brass Guilloché Enameled French Edwardian Hairbrush

Brass Guilloché Enameled French Edwardian Hairbrush

62.00

Romantic and feminine in style, this Rococo Revival hairbrush dates to the Edwardian period before 1910. It boasts a beautiful example of guilloché enameling, the process by which a metal surface is machine-engraved with wavy or geometric linework, and subsequently covered with a transparent colored enamel, causing the pattern to peep through the enamel, giving it an pseudo-iridescent sheen.

What makes this hairbrush very rare is that it is highlighted by a hand-painted scene of two reclined lovers within a landscape. The scene sits within an oval window, flanked on its top and its bottom by a bouquet of three budding roses and greenery. The miniature mural is topped with a billowing blue bow, matching the gentleman lover’s knickers and tunic. The neck of the brush shows wear, allowing a unique glimpse into the brass body beneath the enamel. The brush is edged in turquoise tarnished brass which is attached with small brass brads.

This special hairbrush would make an eclectic addition to any vanity or collection, would make an intriguing photography prop for beauty flat lays or shoots. Decorated on both sides, fully functional and rare for its kind, this guilloché hairbrush is quite a treasure.
