Art Deco Black Lip Mother of Pearl Belt Buckle Slide

Art Deco Black Lip Mother of Pearl Belt Buckle Slide

As was the fashion during the Jazz Age, the earthy shimmer of Abalone and Mother of Pearl was utilized to beautify even the simplest, most utilitarian accessories. While most 20s-era shell buckles are carved into rectangular slides, this particular buckle is set apart because it retains the entirety of the original shell. Two thin openings have been delicately hand-carved to allow for a belt or sash to wind through, and both sides are polished to a perfect shine. The iridescence of the shell is subtly dramatic and makes this accessory an unexpected treasure.
