Mid Century Dansk Glass Sculptural Mod Candle or Ring Holder

Mid Century Dansk Glass Sculptural Mod Candle or Ring Holder

22.00

Expertly crafted by the world renowned Swedish mid century design house Dansk, this glass object is sculptural in form, and iconically modern. Its body is comprised of very heavy blown glass, shaped and molded with a concave domed base and a rounded post stemming from the center on top. The weight and thickness of the glass causes the color to layer and darken when the light passes through it, giving it strong visual interest. This piece is just as appealing when not in use as it is when it is in use.

This item was originally designed by Dansk to be a candle holder for pillar style candles: one can press the base of a large pillar candle onto the post, so that the post is within the center of the candle and held in place by it, OR one can turn the object upside down, and hold the post in one’s grip, with the pillar candle placed within the concave area, the rim of the base holding the candle steady. This piece was intended to be an inventive variation of the traditional candlestick holder, giving the user the option of either a stationary, tabletop light source, or a portable, handheld one.

Though this mid century art glass object is quite clever, it is, perhaps, a little less ideal for everyday use. For more practical uses, this Dansk piece may be used as a very functional paperweight or receipt weight. Use as a ring dish by sliding on your precious jewels for safekeeping. The weight of the item makes it immovable to curious pets and little hands. The post measures exactly a US ring size 5.5, but fits rings US size 7 and larger most comfortably.

Use as a tabletop candleholder, or a handheld pillar candle holder, as a desk accessory or paperweight, as a mid century home accent, a modern art glass sculpture, or as a creative ring holder. This piece is multifunctional and a stunning example of mid century Scandinavian design.
