Large Victorian Stoneware Crock with Salt Glaze

Large Victorian Stoneware Crock with Salt Glaze

Due to its consistency in size and shape, this stoneware vessel is classified as a crock. Unlike its later and more prevalent counterparts, it is not two toned, but of one glazing on the interior as well as the exterior; it is finished with a cream-colored salt glaze over its entirety. This crock features the maker’s mark of a blue pointed crown with ‘3’ on the center section, and ‘USA’ just below, indicating its volume and country of manufacture. There is also a “USA” mark on the item’s base. It is highly collectible, highly desirable, and rare because it is not glazed with a brown Albany slip glaze on its interior.
