c. 1925-1930 German Silver Footed Serving Bowl by WMF Ikora for Orivit

Heralding from pre-war Germany, this bowl was one of a small collection of silverplate items produced by the Cologne-based company Orivit. It was produced between 1925 and 1930 when the company’s art director Hugo Debach designed a collection based on his affinity for Asian art, called Ikora. The bowl’s shapes speak to the harmonious geometries often found in Asian design, and the organic form of the piece are also a reaction to the post Arts & Crafts and Art Deco movements sweeping Europe and the United States at the time.

The bowl is plated by a method that was perfected and patented by the company, one that is still used solely by them today. The silverplating is twice as strong and durable as other typical electroplating manufacturing methods. Just the right size, this bowl is perfect for serving side dishes, as a petite fruit bowl, or as a convenient and handsome catchall. Style with your other eclectic finds for everyday display or save for use on special occasions.
