c. 1900 Pressed Amber Glass Snuff Bottle

c. 1900 Pressed Amber Glass Snuff Bottle

Over a century old, this brown amber glass bottle once stored snuff on a general store or pharmacy’s shelf. Each snuff bottle was stamped on the base with a series of raised dots, one to six, that are said to have represented the strength of the snuff. This bottle features three dots diagonally set on the base, indicating the snuff as being medium in strength. These kinds of bottles were simply storage containers, and were not necessarily kept after the snuff sold out, thus giving surviving bottles an air of rarity. Use as a modern flower vase for your favorite clippings, as a pencil or pen holder in your office space, or arrange within a centerpiece for some vintage interest and charm.
