Art Nouveau Style Hand-Painted Bone China Bud Vase

Art Nouveau Style Hand-Painted Bone China Bud Vase

18.00

This bone china vase has an ovoid shape with proportionally broad shoulders and a thinner ringed neck that subtly flares at its rim. It bears the iconic warm coloring attributed to the bone ash added during the china’s production. When held to the light, it is translucent, also a defining characteristic of bone china. The base is stamped with a model number, indicating the vase itself was professionally manufactured likely between 1900 and 1920. However, since then it has been hand painted in the Art Nouveau style.

Interestingly, the hand painting was done to resemble the work of famed ceramic painter from the late 19th century Susan S. Frackelton. Specifically, this vase’s painting harkens to Frackelton’s work on a similar bud vase dated 1894-1909 that is currently held in the Wisconsin historical society archives.

This teal vase’s nature-inspired floral painting is imperfect and all the more charming for it. Its rose gold, bronze, and gold coloring adds a warm feel to the seafoam color, and illuminates when it catches the light. Its petit opening holds a single stem or a couple if thin, and is equally stunning when not in use. Dress up your shelf with this piece or place in a well-lit space to maximize its iridescence.
